National and international social developments are leading to increasing regulations in domains that include soil, water, plants and ecology, whereby the sustainable use and management of our natural environment has a central place. This also affects the management and use of turfgrass sports fields. Increasing environmental requirements, pollution risks, preferences by golf players, soccer players and other sporters in regard to the quality of sports turf are also leading to a further necessity to professionalise the management and maintenance of golf courses and turfgrass sports fields. Moreover, the Turfgrass Sciences Chair can act as a catalyst for both research and expertise, as well as training and advice from and for turfgrass sports field managers and can make a difference both economically and environmentally.
